Stick to the system

Design system

Intro

There seems to be a zeitgeist around design systems within the last few years, and rightfully so. Systems allow for consistency within design teams and quicker implementation of shipped products. They are the ultimate and essential conversation between design and engineering. People come and go but the system stays. I absolutely loved creating all of the permutations of the elements that are used by the internal teams at Experian Credit Services. When a client buys into a concept and fights for the best possible outcome, good things happen and in this case it shows.

Buttons!

The team was adamant that our system's cornerstone was the buttons. It took many weeks and many conversations to finally land on a color and style system for the buttons that would be used in hundreds of different ways across the many different products that the internal teams would use. It may seem a small thing in the above image but hammering out this foundation was integral for the following elements that would be created for the system.

When it all comes together

Part of creating a system is to ensure that what you've made works together. During our process with this design system, we made sure to continue to create screens that combined different elements with different user experience goals. Some pages may be data heavy while a call center may need customer information easily at hand. Pushing the system to be able to accommodate these different uses was a major part of our process.
